Chapter 3 - The Hook Mountain massacre (Ongoing)

6 months have passed since Meakous disappearance. In that time, the Guardians have received messages from all over Varisia: reports of portals and demons The group does what it can, spending a great deal o time flying around the country stopping portals from opening, and ending minor demon incursions. The Remnants of the cult cause minor problems as well, though nothing pushes the mystery any further to its completion. If the Runelords are indeed returning, the Guardians ar enot sure how or when this will happen. They are also plagued with various ‘minor’ problems; given their reputation, they sometimes receive messages that a new piece of evidence has been uncovered, or a new portal has opened, only to arrive at their destination to find the locals just want some free help from a famous adventuring band. Consequently, it has been a tiring few months for our heroes.

After the mission in Magnimar and the defeat of Xanesha, the group has noticed the relationship between alle and Dust was strained, and eventually broke. After Meakou left, Dust spent a lot of time away form the group outside of missions, and even a lot of time away from Sandpoint. While he has returned, he now lives at the Rusty Dragon, though he is always available when needed. Alle also took some time away about 3 months into the time, for a week. Since then you have noticed they are either sniping at each other, or painfully polite, though the tension is relatively minor and hasnt seemed to affect the teams performance to greatly…. yet.

Jak Jak has become noteably more annoyed with the false starts to missions, and has pulled away from the group more and more. While still cheerful on the surface, he has become a much more reclusive member of the group.

Choele has been gone most of the last few months, having returned home to visit his Shamen mentor. He returns just before the latest mission seemingly refreshed and ready to work.

WE BEGIN!
A portal was reported in an old temple at the foot of the Wyvern mountains not to far from the town of Spireshadow. The group has gone to investigate and discovered this isn’t one of those false alarms; this is definitely a demon portal. They battle a group of Fire Drakes who have made their home in the mountain. After Bella manages to close the portal, mysterious feedback of some kind shakes the cave and brings it down, just as our heroes make their escape aboard the Blackjak. After a feast at the nearby town, the group answered a letter from their old friend Shalelu Andosana, who asked the group to meet her in the (somewhat) nearby town of Turtleback Ferry.
Session 2:
As The team was doing some preliminary planning aboard the Blackjak, they flew into a severe storm where a lightning strike caused sever damage. Making it to dry land, but losing 2 crew members, the team realizes that until they can find some dry wood of sufficient size, the ‘Jak is stuck in Claybottom Lake.
They head into town, where Alle splits off to assist a stable master herd his horses out of the rain, and the rest of the group head to find a nearby inn. They have been inside on a few minutes (Waiting for Shelalu to return), when Dust spots a familiar sigil tattooed on the arm of a man at a nearby table; The Sihedron Rune! After some harsh questioning, the group receives information that the rune is on the bodies of several townsfolk; It was the mark of people who frequented, and were preferred customers, of the Pleasure ship ’Paradise.’ A hive of Vice and gambling, it was run by a beautiful redhead named Lucrecia. However 5 weeks before the party arrived, the bat suddenly sunk, with 24 people aboard, including Lucrecia herself. The reasons for the accident have yet to be determined, though some townsfolk blame a mysterious lake Monster called The Black Magga.
Townspeople who were met:
Cestern – The bar keep, who is suspicious of you
Lisa – His wife, who is a pious woman who worships Erastil (As do most in town)
Mayor Maelin Shreed – The Mayor and loyal priest of Erastil. he is initially suspicious of the heroes, but is willing to give them a chance and take them at their word that the tattoos are dangerous
Colin – man scared who pissed his pants when Dust Confronted him
Jackie – Colins Wife
Billy – Knocked out by Khoura, also has a Rune Tattoo (RT)
Albert – Was also in the bar when the incident occured, no seen tattoo
Dave – came in after the altercation. Dust spoke with him about his rune. he got drunk and went to Maaelin to have it removed, with Lukes help.
Tracey – Dave’s wife
Luke – Came in with his friend Dave, and helped him out later

JakJak and Khoura returned to the Blackjak for the niht, whle the rest of the team took rooms for the night. In the morning, the group agreed to assist Shalelu in going to the nearby fort Rannick to speak to the local Rangers, The Black Arrows who haven’t been seen or heard from in 5 weeks (The last message was only a few days before the sinking of the paradise in fact. On their way there, they hear the wounded cries of a Firepelt and investigate. They are somewhat started to come upon an Ogrekin and his giant dogs speaking of prisoners and the horrors that lie in wait for them…

Chapter 2 Summary

CHAPTER 2:

Alle, Bela and Meakou are thrown to Shieldwall, Alle’s hometown. With the help of some local heroes, the group helps push back an advance by the Orc army, and saves the king from an assassination attempt. The group is then pulled back to the Thistletop dungeon room, where they wake up next to the boys, who have no memory of what happened to them. The group returns to Sandpoint, and have a relatively quiet 6 months. They have a new house built that they all live in, and do further research into rthe Runelords, with the help of a local ‘expert’ named Brodert Quint. However the group is spurred back into action by a series of myserious murders in Sandpoint, most recently Shayliss sister Katrine and her lover in the Swmill. After some investigating, the group uncovers a rune carved on the victom, which Brodert identifies as ‘The Sihedron Rune” and represents the 7 virtues and seven sins, and also has ties to the Runelords. The group decides to head to a nearby asylum,, where the lone survivor of the murders has been sent, though he appeared ill at the time. When they arrive, they discover that the man has become a Ghoul… and also that the man running the asylum is a necromancer. They put a stop to this, and return to Sandpoint.

However soon they are sent out again, this time to look into mysterious deaths that sound very similar to the murders in the nearby farmlands. After a harrowing ordeal with a group of ghouls that siege a local barn, the group picks up clues that lead them to foxglove manor, the ancestral home of their old friend Aldern. Here they find a nightmare haunted house full of Ghosts and monstrous creatures, and batrtle their way forward to eventually encounter the Skinsaw murderer himself; Aldern Foxglove, transformed into a monsterous Ghast! They defeat Foxglove, and cleanse the spirits from the house, but also encounter startling evidence that Aldern was but a pawn in the larger scheme of a group of cultists operating out of the grand city of Magnimar! The group heads back to Sandpoint to heal and rest before they move on to the next part of their quest. When they get back, Jak Jak reveals that he has discovered a mysterious truth: Senestro is not who he claims to be, ut is actually his brother Chole! When the men were sent through a portal, they were sent to slave camp where his brother was being held. After a short time, the group made an escape, but Chole replaced his brother in desperation, using a magic ring to take on his appearance. When the group returned, he had amnesia like the others, and was told who he was. Using the information he was told, along with Senestros own journals ins and point, he convinced himself that he WAS Senestro. As soon as the truth came out, Bela summoned senstro using her magic bracelet. In the months he had been held, Senestro had lost a hand and leg, but was glad to finally be free. Chole chose to stay with the group moving forwards. Before the group can leave again the town is attacked by a group of pirates! The Guardians fight off the invaders, and even manage to capture their ship, which Jak Jak becomes the new Captain of. With the help of Rumar and some local sailors, the group soon heads out in their new ship, Christened ‘The Blackjak.’ They soon arrive in Magnimar, and follow the trail of the cultists. Various events happen during this time; Rumar accidentally kills a local woman during the course of a battle in a city street, and she is brought back in an Assimari form by Bela, Allesdandra and Rumar both have communal moments with their Gods, and are changed, the group defeat the cult in a Sawmill near the poor district of Ordella, and The Blackjak is blessed by the Gods and given some. Unusual new features. The Guardians also uncover Justice Ironbriar as a higher up in the cult, and defeat him, gaining the appreciation of Bayl Argentine, the head of the 13 Justices n the city, and Lord-Mayor Haldmeer Groraras, the corrupt head of the city. However the group still has one task left to them; Hunting down the true cult leader, the monstrous Lamia Matriach Xanehsa, who has been pulling the strings all along! The group travels to the Underbridge, and barely defeats Xanesha in an old clocktower, losing Dusts wolf companion Nashoba in the process. The group is honoured by the mayor, and made Guardians of Varisia; They now have authority to deal with threats in the name of the country itself. They take the Blackjak back to Sandpoint (And discover it can fly!) and return to rest. However upon their arrival they are met by a mysterious lady nathed in light; The matriarch of the Maratan people and Meakous superior Amella! She is disappointed in what has happened to Meakou, who has been drinking heavily and no longer making coherent notes. While the group attempts to defend her, Amella summons countless creatures around the entire town, forcing the group to watch as Meakou disappears in a bolt of lightning, leaving her Idalon Khorra in her stead to assist the group in further adventures.

Chapter 1 Summary

CHAPTER 1:

Belacharl, a young Tiefling, entered the town of Sandpoint on the eve of the Swallowtail festival, a festival dedicated to the consecration of the towns new temple. Already in the town were Chaine “Senestro” Chemzoen, a stage magician and ladies man; Lingering Dust of Ancient stars, a stoic and grim faced Shanti Ranger; Rumar the Fisher, a local fisherman and inquisitor of Abadar and Allesandra, a human paladin from Shieldwall. As the festival evening went on, a Goblin army attacked he town, and the 5 unlikely heroes were drawn together to help fend them off. During the fray, a glowing Assimar named Meakou appeared in a bolt of lightning to join the fray.

The town was saved, and the group soon became local heroes. They discovered that a body had been taken from the local cemetery, that of Ezakien Tobyn, but the reasons why remain unclear. Senestro becomes involved with Shayliss Vender, a local shopkeepers daughter, and narrowly avoids the furies of her father. While this cools Senestros interests, Shayliss remains keen on the young Rogue. The party is invited on a boar hunt by Aldern Foxglove, a noble from a nearby estate who was visiting the town, and whom the group saved from Goblins. Aldern seems to take a keen liking to Allessandra, which appears to make Dust a bit jealous (Much to his seeming surprise). However the hunt goes well, and the locals find even more favour in the PC’s enjoying a hearty feast off their success. The group is allowed to stay for free in the Rusty Dragon as thanks for their efforts, and they soon become friends with Ameiko Kaijitsu, a former adventurer and current pub owner. They witness an altercation between Ameiko and her father Longiku Kaijitsu, an elderly local aristocrat. They don’t understand all that is said, but are aided by a new stranger, Jak Jak a Tengu monk and wanderer. He soon joins the group when they hear screams in the night, and discover that some Goblins had remained hiding in the town, and had killed a local family. A few days later the group is invited to the mayors office. They are told by a local elf ranger, Shalelu Andosana, that the various local goblin tribes have gathered together, which is very unusual. Sheriff Belor Hemlock, the local town Watch leader, has left with some men to go and request help from the soldiers at Magnimar, and will be away several days. He asks the PC’s to help look after the town in his absence. Not long after his departure, Bethana, the local barmaid, comes and tells the group that Ameiko has gone missing. They track her to the local Glassworks, and fight their way through some Goblins hiding there to the caverns beneath. They capture Tsuto Kaijitsu, Ameiko’s brother, and discover he is in league with a supposedly dead local girl named Nualia, who is half assamir, but has fallen and become a demon. The group enters the catacombs of Wrath, ancient chambers once controlled by one of the ancient Thassilonians known as The Runelord Alaznist. They close the Runewell here, but also encounter a mysterious cave. Inside they find the spirit of an ancient Shoanti, who tells the group they are prophesised heroes known as the Kahu Ola “The Guardians.” He gives each a special magical device to each member of the group. Allesandra and Dust begin their romance, and Jak Jak becomes a formal member of the group. Meakou has started drinking heavily by this time. After closing the catacombs the group move on to the small keep of Thistletop, where the Goblin armies have massed. Hey fight their way down, killing many Goblins along the way. However they spare 3; Squigley, his mother Bey’Ogley and her Hobgoblin partner Bruthazmus. The three leave and as far as the PC’s are concerned, were never seen again. They fight their way through Nualias shrine to Lamashtu, a dark God, and down to Nualias chambers, where he is killed, ending the threat to Sandpoint. However as the group makes ready to leave, they encounter another room where the Barghest demon Malfeshnekor has been imprisoned. They defeat the demon, but the party is swept through a mysterious portal, which closes behind them.

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.
